The full answer
Hummus is a dip made from blended chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice and garlic. Chickpeas and sesame paste are not a problem on their own in small amounts, but garlic is toxic to dogs.
A lick of hummus is unlikely to cause a crisis, but regular or large amounts could, especially for small dogs, because garlic damages red blood cells over time. The oil and salt content can also upset the stomach.
If you want to share chickpeas, offer a few plain cooked chickpeas without salt, oil or seasoning. Flavoured hummus, such as those with roasted garlic, onion or chilli, is worse still.
Is Hummus Good for Dogs?
Hummus provides fibre and protein, but the garlic makes it unsuitable for dogs.
