The full answer
Spearmint and peppermint leaves are generally fine for dogs in very small amounts, and a little fresh mint is sometimes used to freshen breath. Large amounts of mint can upset the stomach.
Not every mint is safe. English pennyroyal is a mint-family plant that is toxic to dogs, and concentrated essential oils such as peppermint oil can be harmful if eaten or licked. Always make sure you know which plant you are giving.
Mint sweets, breath mints and gum are a bigger worry because many sugar-free products contain xylitol, which is highly toxic to dogs. Never share these.
Is Mint Good for Dogs?
Mint is aromatic and a pinch may freshen breath, but it is not a substitute for dental care.
